I encourage you to read the article in full since it is a perspective from one of our great thinkers on immersive worlds. Last week he published in Unravel what could turn out to be a seminal article on the Metaverse entitled, " 10 Commandments for the Metaverse-Coming to a Screen Near You!” He founded Electronic Arts, the 3DO company and Digital Chocolate and is considered one our industry's true experts in games and 3D visually immersive worlds. One of the more experienced people in our industry in terms of games and imaginary worlds is Trip Hawkins. However, Zuckerberg is all-in on VR as the center of his Metaverse while Tim Cook is highly focused on Apple's AR vision of the Metaverse. Interestingly, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's CEO Tim Cook both give a nod to a mixed reality world were there is a blend of VR and AR in their approach to a Metaverse. We expect them to create AR glasses that give people a clear view of their real world with enhanced AR data and apps to add new features and functions to their physical world.
Given Apple’s customer base and strong consumer brand, they absolutely could have the larger Metaverse audience. They too have already spent billions of dollars working with developers to create a host of AR apps that today can be used on the iPhone and iPad.
At the other end of the spectrum is an AR vision that was introduced by Apple at their developers conference in June 2017.Īpple showed their developers a way to build AR apps that would super-impose digital images on top of real world environments.
